The Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona by Continental will be held in Girona on 20th, 21st and 22nd September. The cycling festival has earned its place as one of the biggest international trade fairs in the sector, a unique place to get a closer look at the cycling industry, represented by a record 500 exhibiting brands. The programme of activities is designed to appeal to both professionals and amateurs.
The Euro Mobility Festival is back on the same dates and returns with its special commitment to creating an environment dedicated to sustainable urban mobility.
The sports section offers a huge range of events: 12 races in all cycling disciplines – XCO, XCM, XCE, XCC, XCC, DH, e-MTB, trial, gravel and road – in a combination of competitive races and recreational outings. The presence of the Trek UCI Gravel World Series, which has become the main attraction of the sports line-up, has attracted World Champion Matej Mohoric himself.
The cycling sector will be keeping a close eye on everything that happens at Pavelló de Fontajau (Girona) over the three days of the festival. The exhibition centre expects to welcome 65,000 visitors and 3,000 professionals, spread over 298 stands, 42,000 square metres of exhibition space and 80,000 square metres of trade fair space. The event is a must to soak up the catalogue of all the exhibiting brands and discover the latest innovations. In fact, some manufacturers have already announced that they will be taking advantage of the occasion to launch new products on the market.
The 8th edition of the Sea Otter Europe festival is set to be one of the biggest events for the global cycling industry and aims to live up to the high expectations that have been generated.
Sea Otter Europe Connect: the space created by and for professionals
Following last year’s success, Sea Otter Europe Connect returns even stronger than before. Thus, the meeting point for professionals in the sector is expanding to further enhance the spirit in which it was born: a space to discuss and analyse business strategies in the cycling industry.
All of this is set to take place over two thematic days with a total of 13 presentations by experts. Friday will be dedicated to industry, while Saturday will be dedicated to cycle tourism. In both cases there will also be time for speeches on marketing and communication. Saturday’s programme is the longest and will feature two networking slots.
Sea Otter Europe’s commitment to making the festival the perfect place for professionals has led the organisation to promote other initiatives such as the new accreditation for professionals, Sea Otter Europe PRO. Several exclusive services are offered beyond Connect: the Business Club – a networking area adapted for meetings, the Sea Otter Europe Match app – created to facilitate connections between professionals and increase contacts, the Prime Time – a private party for exhibitors – and the Cantina Expo – an open-air catering area open from Thursday.
12 sports events with 6,000 registered participants
The sports programme is another highlight of Sea Otter Europe. The Trek UCI Gravel World Series will be the main attraction; a race that forms part of the select group of races that qualify for the World Championships. A top-level event that will also serve as the best showcase for Girona to project its spectacular gravel tracks to the world. Matej Mohoric will wear the Rainbow jersey on a day that will also feature Alejandro Valverde, Iván García Cortina, Tiago Ferreira, Samuel Sánchez, Miguel Induráin and Alain Prost.
The Ciclobrava by Orbea will attract more than 1,300 people to cycle the roads around Girona in a non-competitive mass event. On the other hand, mountain lovers can enjoy the Canyon Marathon Cup MTB or the Shimano Super Cup Massi, while those who want a fun ride can take part in the Gravel Ride Tour.
Furthermore, the little ones will have their share of action in the Super Cup Youth and the Mini DH Kids Cup, as well as being an important part of the Girona Trials Cup. The classics will take place with the MTB Classic and there will also be space for the Ebike Day Girona, Short Track and Eliminator competitions and an exclusive women’s ride, the Women Social Ride by Jelenew.
Demobike: end customers as product testers
The Demobike is back and will once again be one of the most popular activities with the public. A total of 35 brands will offer their products – including more than 500 bikes – to all visitors, who will have the chance to test them on 9 circuits. This is a key moment for users, who will be able to draw their own conclusions from what they have tried and tested and get a closer look at the latest market developments in various categories.
Euro Mobility Festival: the sustainable urban mobility festival consolidates its role
The Euro Mobility Festival continues to broaden its horizons with the intention of becoming an independent festival. Still under the umbrella of Sea Otter Europe, but with its own identity, the new edition of this festival will be a benchmark for sustainable urban mobility in Europe. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy exhibitors, workshops, conferences, tests, a food court and other activities.
The festival was created as a catalyst for the transformation of city-friendly mobility, a space to address the immediate and future challenges of the sector.
Other activities
Sea Otter Europe will also see the launch of the ‘Girona Innovation Health Cycling’ (GISC) project, a socio-economic cluster led by Girona City Council and made up of companies from the cycling, health, technology and public administration sectors, which aims to promote health through cycling and integrate cycling into sustainable mobility, wellbeing and innovation.
One of the novelties of this year’s edition includes the creation of an open-air space dedicated to hosting cycling tourism presentations open to all festival-goers. It will be held at the Auditori Costa Brava Pirineu in Girona and short presentations of exhibitors, destinations and tourism products related to cycling will be scheduled.
Sea Otter Europe will also offer food trucks, musical performances, activations at many of the exhibitor stands and many more activities.
Visitors must download their free ticket before entering the festival.
