Luís Arnedo Ruiz, head of activities and events, and Anna Banus, manager, talk us through the facilities offered by the Club Camping Internacional Calonge campsite.
What are the campsite’s main characteristics and services in terms of cycling tourism?
We are one of the few campsites on the Costa Brava that is open all year round.
We are located along the Eurovelo 8 and Pirinexus route, which means we form part of the European cycling network.
At the campsite we have a closed, private space where cyclists can keep their bicycle and make repairs or clean it with peace of mind.
We also boast a sports club where we offer both MTB and road routes for all levels. Thanks to our amazing location we have direct access to both the main road and the network of mountain trails and routes within Les Gavarres.
What’s more, you can also hire bicycles and accessories from the sports club.
We also offer a self-service laundry service with washing machines and dryers and a catering service with special dietary options to meet the needs of cyclists.
What made you get involved in Sea Otter Europe and what do you think the festival brings to cycling tourism in Girona?
The cycling-tourism sector is growing by leaps and bounds on the Costa Brava and we want to grow alongside it. That is why we think Sea Otter is a great opportunity to make ourselves known, not only at a national and European level but also at an international level due to the event’s prestige and recognition.
Sea Otter Europe puts Girona on the world map through cycling and promotes our region by way of sport, not only for professional teams but also all amateurs who love the sport.
How would you weigh up cycling tourism in the region?
As we’ve already mentioned, cycling tourism is booming and many professional teams come to the area to train due to the climate, the landscape and the roads.
Thanks to this, public entities such as the Girona Tourist Board and those providing accommodation or sports facilities and sports companies, among others, are creating packages so that both professional and amateur teams can use the region as a training camp, for stages, etc.
Is there anything you would like to highlight?
We are a family campsite open all year round with more than 50 years of experience in the tourism sector.
We boast facilities and services such as a swimming pool complex, playgrounds, a tennis court, sports areas, a kids’ club, a sports club, a supermarket, a restaurant, a take-away, a launderette and sanitary facilities located in all areas of the campsite.
We also offer an extensive entertainment programme for all ages and a train that runs through the campsite from the entrance all the way to the upper part.
