La Tramun – organised by Club BTT Fornells – and Sea Otter Europe are teaming up to present one of the major sporting events of the year.

The race will attract the best specialists in the discipline and will make the festival an even more international event.

Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona 2025 will host a Cross Country Marathon (XCM) World Cup event. The event is part of the Sea Otter Europe sports programme and adopts the route of La Tramun, the popular mountain bike race with more than 25 years of history. Thanks to this alliance, the race will now become an obligatory date on the calendar for the best riders in the discipline, who will have to battle through the incomparable trails that surround one of the great cycling capitals of the world. The race, named La Tramun Sea Otter Europe, will take place in the wooded landscapes of Girona, La Garrotxa, La Vall d’Hostoles and La Vall del Llémena.

The prestige of a World Cup event will be a new attraction for the Sea Otter Europe festival, which increases its commitment to be an international reference and welcomes the arrival of the XCM World Cup with open arms. It will be one of the last races on the calendar, so it is very likely to be decisive for the overall classification.

This announcement raises the bar for a sporting programme of recognised worldwide interest, which will also include the UCI Gravel World Series for the second year.

The President of Girona Provincial Council and of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Miquel Noguer, welcomes the arrival of the World Cup event ‘which will help us to position the Costa Brava and Girona as top cycling destinations. This event will be a new incentive for competitors and cycling enthusiasts. For visitors it will also be a unique opportunity to discover the scenic, cultural and gastronomic attractions of the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees. We confirm that the Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona festival is consolidating its position after eight editions and is becoming an extraordinary catalyst for international sporting events as well as a pole of attraction for the elite in the different cycling disciplines’.

This event will be of great benefit and will bring visitors and cycling enthusiasts to the city of Girona. Deputy Mayor Gemma Geis said that ‘it is exciting that Sea Otter Europe is incorporating new races and growing as an event, with the aim of highlighting the natural heritage of Girona and its surroundings’. For his part, the councillor for sports, Àdam Bertran, pointed out that ‘Girona City Council’s sports service is committed to first-class sporting events in the city, which provide added value and promote grassroots sport. The fact that the best cyclists in the world are coming to Girona once again makes the city a city of sporting success and shows that our commitment to being a benchmark for elite and grassroots sport is working’.

This is La Tramun Sea Otter Europe Girona: 78 km and 2,800 m

La Tramun Sea Otter Europe Girona can be defined in two words: tough and captivating. The race offers a spectacular route, marked by the enormous number of trails that make up the circuit, starting in Les Planes d’Hostoles (Garrotxa) and finishing in Girona. The trails, which have made the city of Girona a place of pilgrimage for cyclists, are the main protagonists of a route that test the physical conditions and technical skills of the riders.

The XCM World Cup will be open to competitors in both the Elite category and those with a UCI Master’s licence. In addition, the organisation will also offer the possibility of participating in the Open category.

On the other hand, the Marathon Cup MTB remains in the festival’s sports programme and will make the last stop of the championship at the Sea Otter Europe 2025, so that those who want to can still enjoy the usual offer of the championship: long distance (60 km) and short distance (40 km) -both options also for Pro and Open categories-.

The track of La Tramun Sea Otter Europe, with 78 km and 2,800 metres of positive height gain, is an incomparable attraction. The start will take place in Les Planes d’Hostoles. The mayor of the municipality, Marc Puig, is very pleased with the news and says that ‘for the town it is very important for the positive impact’ of the race, as well as a sign of the commitment of the council to sporting events.

The riders will enter an infinite succession of trails, in a transition that will go from thevolcanic environment of the Garrotxa to the Mediterranean forests that surround Girona. The first part of the race will be marked by demanding climbs, while the second part will be a long and steep descent, which will lead to crossing the finish line with a cumulative negative descent of 3,150 metres.
The track is a safe bet, as it will be the same as La Tramun, the emblematic race organised by the Club BTT Fornells.

The finish line will be located inside the Sea Otter Europe exhibition centre, with a large crowd of spectators awaiting the arrival of the cyclists, as part of one of the most important international cycling festivals in the world, which will be held in Girona on 19-20-21 September. The event will be supported by Girona City Council, Girona Provincial Council, the Secretaria General de l’Esport and the Federació Catalana de Ciclisme.
