The Euro Mobility Festival, devoted to urban mobility proposals, was a resounding success
The seventh Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona Bike Show by Continental closed its gates today with attendees from a record-breaking 112 countries, including visitors and the cyclists who competed in the different races. This indicator far exceeds the figure of 62 nationalities recorded last year and highlights the international scope of the event, which, over three days, packed the city of Girona and its surrounding area, not to mention the Costa Brava, a region that places enormous value on the economic impact of Sea Otter Europe.
The event closed its doors today with over 65,000 visitors, a number well above the 58,000 people that came last year. The overall assessment has been extremely positive, both from the standpoint of the 400-plus exhibiting brands and the cyclists who participated in the sporting events, the thousands of visitors and the event’s sponsors, who all regard it as the major European meeting point for the cycling industry, end consumers and fans of the sport.
The Euro Mobility Festival proves highly popular
One of the new features this year was the launch of a specific area for the European Mobility Festival, bringing together manufacturers, suppliers and bodies involved in offering different forms of urban mobility as key players in the transformation of mobility. Over three days, this space attracted visitors interested in electric bikes, scooters, motorcycles and transport solutions for families and the professional sphere. As part of this commitment to address mobility challenges, the Sea Otter Connect was held during the festival, bringing together industry professionals, the cycling industry and the administrations to discuss the future of mobility, market trends and urban users.
New records for brands and exhibitors
The expansion of the Sea Otter Europe expo area facilitated the increase in space set aside for the cycling festival, which this year welcomed 405 brands from all over the world to showcase their products at more than 250 stands for bikes, electric bikes, accessories and technology applied to cycling.
The response to the competitive events also remained high, with almost 6,000 cyclists competing in the dozen races organised across the different categories that drew large numbers of spectators.
Once again, the Demobike formula proved to be one of the most attractive proposals at Sea Otter Europe. Over the three days of the festival, nearly 4,000 rides were held to test the different bicycle models for all the segments (MTB, gravel, road and those designed to get around the city).
A spectacular final day of sport at Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava Girona by Continental
The Ciclobrava by Orbea, the Canyon Girona Gravel Ride, Corratec ebike Day and the different categories of the Shimano Super Cup Massi took centre stage on the final day.
Cycling tourism was the first discipline of the day, with three races covering 140, 105 and 70 kilometres along some of the most beautiful roads and landscapes in the province.
It was followed by the second 70-km Canyon Girona Gravel Ride, with a wide range of fans from home and abroad and celebrities such as Alejandro Valverde, Oliver Avilés, Angel Edo and the great Purito Rodríguez.
Then it was time for the non-competitive Corratec ebike Day race, during which fans of electric bikes were given the opportunity to enjoy the area surrounding the city of Girona in a relaxing and leisurely manner.
Finally, the main mountain bike competition and the races in the different Shimano Super Cup Massi categories (the lower categories in the morning and the women’s and men’s races at noon) were held. Dutchwoman Sophie Von Berswordt from the Watersley R&D Offroad Team won the women’s category, while Mexican Gerardo Ulloa from the Massi team won the men’s.
And so the best-attended event in the history of this cycling festival came to an end, which will once again be held in Girona and on the Costa Brava from 20 to 22 September 2024.
