The Sea Otter Europe Girona Costa Brava is almost upon us for its second year. In such a very short time, it has already become a consolidated event and earned a strong reputation throughout Spain and worldwide. The space made available to exhibitors has been doubled in size this year and the number of brands attended the tradeshow has increased. Just as this active tradeshow is growing and improving its reputation at all levels, so too are the race events included over the course of the weekend. Nonetheless, the fact that a competition can be held within the framework of an event of such proportions is somewhat exceptional and a unique opportunity to gather brands, teams, riders and the general public all in one place.
Within the extensive sports schedule at Sea Otter Europe, there is one competition being called upon to become a European benchmark for the future. The XCO event, which forms part of the Super Cup Massi, has all the ingredients to become an event of international standing. Besides including the UCI C1 category, what differentiates this race from any other is the atmosphere in which it takes place. Thousands of MTB fans attend Sea Otter Europe and come face-to-face with the chance to see bikers in action who star in some of the best races on the planet. These stars include the best Spanish riders as well as world leaders, such as Julien Absalon. This is one of those few times when the competition seeks out its audience and not the other way around. The best way to bring the purest cross country to a specialised and knowledgeable audience.
It is also a golden opportunity for riders to enjoy the crowd’s encouragement and passion up close, as well as surroundings that foster contact between bikers and brands. This is the perfect place to take advantage of structured competition, not only at an athletic level but in terms of image and promotion.
The track route, which is great for spectators because it allows people to follow a lot of the race without moving from their spot and also passes through the heart of Sea Otter Europe, will build exciting races hotly contested down to the last few metres thanks to a circuit with significant gradients that tend to bunch up the riders and lead to explosive competitions.
This Super Cup Massi race —the third and penultimate of this major international championship launched this year by Ocisport— also forms part of the Biking Point Catalan International Cup. Adopting the successful formula already used in Banyoles, the organisers will place a special spotlight on the women’s categories as the compete exclusively on Saturday afternoon. The rest of the bikers will compete in races on Sunday morning. A double opportunity to enjoy the best XCO in the world while discovering the latest news from exhibiting brands, trying any of the hundreds of bikes available in the demo zone or sharing some 100% biker time in the food truck area of the expo. Yet another reason not to miss the Sea Otter Europe 2018.
